This was my first year doing this and it was AMAZING!
I can't wait for next year!
My local comic book store, "4 Color Fantasies", hosted the event and it was way too much fun.
The owners of the shop had planned on putting up a 24hr webcam of the whole thing, but that idea fell through. Hopefully next year.
In the beginning of the day, 24 hours seems like enough time to get done with a 24 page comic with time to spare. So I worked really hard on the backgrounds of the first few pages and as the night wore on the backgrounds of the panels had less and less detail in them.
Some people went in with a ready-to-go plot like this guy (who I have to thank for helping me and sharing tool and tips)
http://julian-aguilera-art.blogspot.com/, some people had no idea what they were doing, and others (me) went in knowing that they had a general idea of a beginning, some middle gags, and an end, but wanted to wing the rest.
Food and drinks were supplied and we watched a bunch of movies.
People who weren't even participating came to the comic shop to hang out and party until the wee hours of the night.
It was a blast.
It only slowed down as the sun threatened to rise.
My detailing was definitely lacking by this point. The Aguilera brothers finished before everyone else and I had my first Monster drink to give me a pick me up. Which actually did wake me up with the help of the Jim Gaffigan dvd that we threw in thanks to Michael.
I started at 11am and finished at 10am the next day.
And while coming with a prepared story would mean that I would be able to fly through the pages with time to work carefully and put as much detail as I can, but it wouldn't be the same.
When I was finally finished with the comic, I read it, and could remember every moment that went with the drawings. What movie we were watching, what kind of conversations were going on, and which pages were just thrown in to add an extra page. I plan on doing it the same way next year. But I plan on having more tools with me.
As soon as I can get the pages of the comic on my comp, i'm going to scan them and post them on my site. In the original form and in the computer edited format. I just really want to color a lot of those pages. It was really time consuming to color Michael's hair in the comic opposed to when I click his hair black on the computer.
I can't wait for next year!
