Hello. As we have discussed on the show, The Webcomic Beacon is thinking about putting together a themed compilation of comics into a POD (print on demand) comic ... or printed for real if it seems like it could happen....

... ANYway, the first thing to do is to both, obtain people that would be interested in putting their best forward, and expressing real interest to submit maybe 1-8 pages of something for a collborative project such as this.

the other thing to to figure out what theme it should be on. On the show, we ultimately came up with a "Holiday Cookbook" theme... not limited to the winter ones either. In this theme idea, you can have recipies, related jokes, or both.

This is an idea in the works, but we do want to get this going as soon as possible, and see if we can actually have something ready by this winter.

So let's hear what people have to say!

EDIT:

Here is what I'll be using for layout and DPI and such:

There is also a template available to download.

Hello Fes,

I have listened through the whole archive of the Webcomic beacon and that's why I only just now found out about this project. I wanted to ask if it's still up-to-date and if yes how long I have time to make a contribution.
The "Holiday Cookbook" theme is cool and I've already got a great idea.
Of course it would be a Bavarian specialty! ;-)
I'm looking forward to your next podcast and until then wish you a wonderful week-end.

I might knock something together. What are the page dimensions?

Just one more question: Color or b/w?

Here is the first impression:

Just want to say that I'm almost done. Just 1 panel left. Hopefully I get it done next week. This one panel waits more then 2 weeks to be finished.
And after my wife has translated the comic (my english is to bad for this) I will send it to you. :)

Awesome! Maybe with someone with a piece done, it will get more people going for it!

Sure,

I'd like to contribute as well - sorry I was slow to reply!

Perhaps I could write up an ad for my webcomic to put into the anthology - I already have to make one for a psych zine. What would be good dimensions for something like an ad?

Well, I wasn't planning on any ads, really, asside from maybe The Beacon and Rampage Network if I need to round pages out to be in sets of 4 (which a book needs to be)... since people who submit the stories, are already advertising themselves...

HOWEVER, perhaps we should have a sorta ad-page... like 6-8 sized ads on a single page (or across two pages) for all contributors.

But flat-out ads, I wasn't going for.

Though I encourage people to contribute anything related to holiday cooking (even if the meaning is stretched), strip to page to several pages.... Though I'll think that the ones that submit more, get bigger ads on the contributor ad page(s)? ... We'll I'll think about how to work that out.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding Sarafin?

Naw, it's ok -

I'll have to give this a bit of thought. A friend of mine and I play this weird food combination game on paper, where we list unlikely recipes for meals and beverages - like venison bubble tea served with cotton candy stuffed turkey dinner glazed with butterscotch. Maybe something from our game could be used in a strip!
